Fic Rec Fridays 2018 - part 28

Numberless the ways, and imperceptible
Numberless the ways, and imperceptible. Legolas/Gimli, ~8900 words. In which Legolas experiences a sub-perceptual phase of a neurobiological process, Gimli has a nasty shock but recovers with aplomb, and Aragorn almost drowns in a glass of wine. One of my betas called this story “reverse pining”.
What it says above, but also a criminally underappreciated story with inventive worldbuilding and well-exploited cultural differences, where Legolas is painfully oblivious (but not in the way you think; “reverse pining” is actually an excellent descriptor for this), and Gimli is admirably patient (but not above being sneaky when an opportunity presents itself), and the rest of the Fellowship (plus Arwen) is laughing at them (and occasionally choking on their wine).
To quote from my own review: this is a fic that made me giggle and sigh and squeal and gasp and grip the edge of my seat in the way only the best stories do. Go read it already!
