My father, being rather magnificent in his own style, and much cherishing our Sindar heritage and his descent from the high court of Thingol, forefather of our people, was often frustrated by the carelessness and light-seeming of his younger son. Whether about dress, or other things. And so in this, and in many matters, they were long at odds.

Their great dispute was always how and whether we of the Woodland Realm should relate to the world outside our borders. Thranduil sought ever to protect us, both against enemies, and to preserve the rare and ancient treasure of our culture. Legolas had the heart of a pilgrim: he thought our fate would rest in our alliances with the other peoples of the world.

But more than that: he loved and treasured the many peoples he met in his wide travels, high Dúnedain and simple horsemen of the Rohan steppes, halfling adventurers and citymen of Gondor, wise wizards and mysterious Ents, and of course, the Dwarves. He had a taste for strangeness, and he would come to live a life that seemed very strange to many. Strange, and wonderful.

Well, back to the morning when he returned from the Quest of the Ring.

My father, I am afraid, had stored up an armory of bitter and unhappy words within himself, in the long wait for Legolas to come home.

It was a great talent of the King, the crafting of clever, angry sayings. He could out with speeches that cut and carved like the keenest of knives, leaving wounds that lingered on through the years, etched in the memory of the listener. It was not a happy gift to own.

This is a culmination of the Cursed Child AU posts on tumblr which people have asked to be archived for easy reading access. I will likely just add to this file rather than post headcanons as new works, so if you want to see any or all of my Cursed Child AU ramblings, this would be the story to subscribe to. These are largely copy pasted from tumblr with zero editing. So apologies for formatting or spelling mistakes. Who knows, maybe one day I will have the time to not only fix this but write the whole thing down.

In all simplicity, this meta/ficlet collection has cleared my skin, uncluttered my house, watered my crops etc. etc., and not only because I had missed some of the texts as they were posted on Tumblr.

Any of you who refuse to accept the utter clusterfuck of The Cursed Child as canon - this is for you. It makes it all better, trust me. (Includes, without being limited to: in-character characters with credible motivations, gaping plot holes closed, and the second-generation Golden Trio that's, well, pure gold ♥)

Summary:

The last time Bilbo stepped foot in Aberdeen it was with a broken heart and a bachelor’s degree. All things considered, this time isn’t so different.

So what you have here is basically an excellent ghost story of the classic variety, only with a wonderful twist (hint: it's a slow-burn romance, just the way I like it), but that's just the bare bones of the thing. I won't spoil the plot for you, but suffice to say the story is very well-written, inventive, sweet and fun and sad and hopeful in all the right places, and has all the characters spot-on.

And yes, there's this one bit where I cried buckets. And the other where I squealed with true pure delight. And now I think I must treat myself to a reread.

In which Regulus, not Severus, is the Potions Master at Hogwarts, and a great many things go differently. And rather more crackily.

Told in bullet points; ignores Deathly Hallows because they annoy me.

Summary:

It takes Gimli a while to realize that he is in love.

Today, I'm reccing you an yet-underappreciated tiny gem.

The introspection is perfectly in-character, the poetic and expressive prose does credit to the son of Glóin, and the whole thing is just the right length, lacking nothing but excess words. What writing goals I have, this is one of them.

I dare you to read to the end and not be moved.
