A few days back an unfortunate collision involving Mr. katajainen, kid #2 and a mug of coffee resulted in my tablet keyboard case becoming an ex-keyboard. It's dead. Deceased. Ceased to be.

And since the tablet is (barely) three years old, the model-specific case is out of stock every-fucking-where, and also I'm iffy about buying any non-universally compatible accessories for a device that's likely to die on me any time in the next two years... and I can't find a generic keyboard case that would fit the 9.7" tablet size and have a Nordic layout. So I'm looking at getting the plainest, most basic protective case for the tablet plus an universal Bluetooth keyboard with a cradle for mobile devices.

Plus: the new keyboard would also be compatible with the iPad kid #1 will be getting from school next semester (to lend, not to keep) and the smartphone I should be getting any day now (see the luddite me caving in for the chance of a decent camera and 4G connection).

Minus: the combo won't likely be lap-operable. Like, I'll need to be sitting at a desk to type.

This is an issue, because for the past three years, the tablet+keyboard combination has been my main fic writing device. And I love writing in weird semi-reclining positions on the sofa/bed/deck chair outside. I need to get a lap desk or something. (Okay, a stupid issue, but I loathe writing anything longer than five words on the touch keyboard.)

So yeah, of course, I do have a desktop PC... but I'm spending enough time glued to this desk as it is. I'd rather do my pleasure-writing elsewhere. The next hardware upgrade I'll do will be to a laptop, though. Because damn this.
