Summary:

There’s a knock on the door.

It isn’t quite dusk; it isn’t too dangerous yet. But still, it’s late to be out on Midwinter’s Night. What if he was held up somewhere?

Legolas takes a nail with him when he opens the door. “Gimli. It’s late.”

For one, I think fanfiction has made far too little use of the possibilities of reimagining Tolkien elves as traditional fae -- all the key components already exist in the canon, after all: beauty and wisdom, merriment and mischief, with the potential for the terrible.

This here is a brief and compelling piece about being caught between two worlds, and having to choose, not once, but again and again. And how hard the choice might be to make, if one stood alone.
