Summary:

In the end, all things come to the Sea.

An underrated, hard-to-find gem that came my way thanks to Roselightfairy. (Thank you dear, you're the greatest!)

What instantly appealed to me was the quality and beauty of the prose; the style is distinctly Tolkienesque, with vivid, breathing descriptions of nature that elevate the scenery well above mere backdrop, making it instead both the unwilling antagonist and the means of an escape. Add to that some good, solid character voices, and you have the kind of story that's a delight to read.

Even if the content is very far from joyous.

But for someone who enjoys the occasional well-measured dose of angst, it is a pleasure in and of itself to have one's heart flayed by such well-honed tale. And in case that scares you off, please remember that above all else, this is a story about love: about the kind of deep, lasting affection that defies the simplistic labels of friendship or romance, and makes itself known through acts of care and worry and great tenderness.

I won't invite you to enjoy, but to be moved, both in heart and in spirit.
